There are so many different sources out there for information that I think can overwhelm many new investors. Understand A Few Terms from the Market

  

Basic Terms

  1. Stock/Share: A unit of ownership in a company.
  2. Equity: Ownership in a company through  stocks.
  3. Stock Exchange: A platform where stocks are bought and sold (e.g., NYSE, NASDAQ).
  4. Ticker Symbol: A unique series of letters representing a publicly traded company (e.g., AAPL for Apple Inc.).
  5. IPO (Initial Public Offering): When a company offers shares to the public for the first time.

  

Market Players

  1. Investor: An individual or institution buying shares for long-term gains.
  2. Trader: Someone who buys and sells  stocks frequently for short-term profits.
  3. Broker: A person or firm that facilitates stock trades for investors.
  4. Market Maker: An entity ensuring liquidity by buying/selling stocks continuously.

  

Trading Concepts

  1. Buy/Sell Order: Instructions to purchase or sell stocks.
  2. Limit Order: An order to buy/sell at a specific price or better.
  3. Market Order: An order to buy/sell at the current market price.
  4. Bid Price: The highest price a buyer is willing to pay for a stock.
  5. Ask Price: The lowest price a seller is willing to accept.
  6. Spread: The difference between the bid and ask prices.
